
LOOKING FOR 21 GOOD MEN AND WOMEN
The nominating committee of the Black Rock NRZ is looking for 21 good women and men to participate in a short term committee to develop a plan for land use and quality of life issues for Black Rock
over the next 10 years.
We are trying to reach as many residents or businesspeople as possible to inform them about the NRZ planning committee nominations. All nominations must be received by May 7.
Dear Black Rock Resident or Business Owner:
The nominating committee of the Black Rock NRZ is looking for 21 good women and men to participate in a short term committee to develop a plan for land use and quality of life issues for Black Rock
over the next 10 years. We are trying to reach as many residents or businesspeople as possible to inform them about the NRZ planning committee nominations. Below are some questions commonly asked.
WHAT IS AN NRZ (Neighborhood Revitalization Zone)? An NRZ is a defined neighborhood recognized by the city council. This neighborhood according to Ct. law can follow a process in which community stakeholders will work with all levels of government to develop and implement a plan to revitalize and improve their neighborhood. The planning is done by stakeholders including residents and businesspeople from the neighborhood, in this case Black Rock.
WHAT ARE THE BOUNDARIES OF THE BLACK ROCK NRZ? The eastern boundary is the west side of Bostwick Ave. and Pine St. the other boundaries are the Fairfield town line, Ash Creek, Black Rock Harbor and Burr Creek.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEING AN NRZ? Benefits include action on blighted properties, local empowerment through local planning, increased possibility of funding for implementation of projects listed in the plan and input into the City Master Plan.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BLACK ROCK NRZ PLANNING COMMITTEE? The planning committee will work with a paid professional planner intensely for several months. Activities include
• Assessment of current status of Black Rock neighborhood What are the assets and what are the challenges?
• Identification of needs and setting of priorities
• Formulation of a plan within a timetable
• Development of a performance and monitoring system.
WHO WILL BE ON THE PLANNING COMMITTEE? Of the 21 members of the committee 11 must be Black Rock residents plus representation from the business, religious, community organizations/non-profit sector, and the public sector.
WHAT DO I DO IF I AM INTERESTED IN BEING ON THE PLANNING COMMITTEE AND/OR KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED?
There are three ways to nominate yourself or other
interested persons for the planning committee:
All nominations must be received by May 7th.

If you or anyone you know is interested please come to an informational meeting on Monday, May 7th 2007 at 7:15pm at the Burroughs Community Center (2470 Fairfield Ave). Questions will be answered and you can decide if you are interested in being on the planning committee.
