City by the Sea Art Fair in Black Rock

The first annual City by the Sea Art Fair (CSAF) is scheduled for May 14–15, 2001. A weekend-long regional juried art exhibition celebrating the vitality and creativity of our waterfront metropolis, the fair will include live musical performances, samplings of some of our best local fare and other special events.

Walking Tour of Black Rock's History

The History Committee of the Black Rock Community Council will present a walking tour of the Black Rock Historical District on Saturday May 21 at 1 pm.  The walk will be led by Charles Brilvitch, local author and historian. The narrated tour will view the earliest Black Rock homes, buildings and landmarks with insightful commentary on the seaport’s history.

Congratulations to the following Black Rock winners in Volume I of Best of Fairfield County Weekly 2011 poll.  We really do have the best of the best in Black Rock, all within walking distance of the new train station. 


Black Rock Wins Big in Best of Fairfield County Weekly 2011 Polls

Out of 112 categories in Volume 1 of The Best of Fairfield County 2011 poll, Black Rock establishments had winners in 29 categories (26%).  That’s pretty amazing when you think of the size of Fairfield County and how concentrated our business district is along Fairfield Avenue.  Volume II will be published on May 12.  If this makes Black Rock sound like a happening place...well, it is!

Ash Creek Spring Clean Up 2011

The Ash Creek Conservation Association had a great turnout on their April 9th Spring Clean Up of Ash Creek with over 40 participants. Special thanks to Martha Turner and Peggy Ianniello for organizing and marketing the event, Mary Erkan, ACCA's Secretary, for manning the table; John Gibson, ACCA Board Member, for helping Black Rock School students; Mary Jane Foster for providing refreshments; Mayor Finch for pitching in with the clean up; and Roger Ludwig, ACCA Board Member, for coordinating the event with Save the Sound, and Matt Wagner for taking the photos of the event.
