Black Rock Featured in New York Times

The Black Rock section of Bridgeport was featured in the Real Estate Section of the New York Times on Sunday, December 25, 2016.  This time the NYT used the boundaries as defined by the NRZ to delineate Black Rock from the rest of Bridgeport.  This means that Black Rock ends at I-95 and right after Captain's Cove.  The article described a dense, walkable neighborhood with a down-to-earth niche of diverse, community-minded residents.  The Black Rock Farmers Market was mentioned.   The market is open on Saturdays from June through October, and has expanded to include artists and music.

New Developments in Black Rock - Black Rock Bank and Trust Building

The former home of the Black Rock Arts Center, at the corner of Brewster Street and Fairfield, is now under development.  It was purchased by T & N Properties of Norwalk, who plan to turn the building into 15 market rate apartments.  There will be ground floor commercial space, but no word on what kind of business will occupy that space.  There will be one, two, and three bedroom apartments.  

Black Rock Tree Lighting Ceremony and Visit from Santa

The Black Rock Community Council invites you to a tree lighting ceremony on Sunday, December 4th at 5 PM at the pocket park at the intersection of Brewster Street and Grovers Avenue to kick off the holiday season and see Santa!  Wassail Party immediately following at the S.S. Norden Club (4 Seabright Avenue).  Enjoy hors d'oevres and lots of holiday cheer (BRCC members only).   Wassail Party is free for BRCC members only (with dues paid for 2016).

BRAG Gives Back 2016

Art show and fundraiser by the Black Rock Art Guild (BRAG) to benefit the Burroughs Community Center and Wakeman Boys and Girls Club.  Art show in conjunction with the Bridgeport Art Trail on Friday, November 11 from noon to 4 pm and Saturday, November 12 from 10 am to 5 pm. Reception, Silent Auction, and "Our Woven Community" sale, Saturday, November 12 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Burroughs Community Center, 2470 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport, CT  06605.

Framemakers Reception - Saturday, September 10

Spring Clean Up - St. Mary's & Ash Creek

Please join your neighbors for the annual Spring clean up of St. Mary's and the Ash Creek tidal estuary.  Meet at St. Mary's beach at 9 AM on Saturday, April 9th.  (Rain date is Sunday, April 10th).  Bring trash bags.  Wear gloves, long sleeves & pants (poison ivy).  Thank you for carrying on this tradition for almost 25 years!  Thank you to Peggy Ianniello and Martha Turner for organizing this annual clean up.

Black Rock Easter Egg Hunt 2016

The Black Rock Community Council will hold their Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday March 20th at 1:30pm at St. Ann Green, 481 Brewster Street for children ages 1-7.  There will be an appearance from the Easter Bunny.
